Sachin a synonym to Cricket : A Tribute

Two notable Instances

* India vs Australia, Sharjah – 143 in 131 balls April 22, 1998

This wasn’t a cricket match. Yeah, It was more a Bollywood film where you see the protagonist, after being bashed up by goons, rising up like an avenging angel. A middle-order collapse, mounting asking rate, an aggressive bowling attack and a desert storm. Sachin Tendulkar overcame all these adversities and bludgeoned five sixes and nine fours to help India qualify for the triseries final. India needed 276 to win, or 237 to qualify off 46 overs, thanks to a revised target following a sandstorm. Tendulkar’s heroics helped India qualify. In the final, he belted another ton to help India win the trophy.

It was a memorable inning! Delight to watch him play in Sharjah.

 * India vs South Africa, Gwalior – 200 not out in 147 balls, Feb 24, 2010

Sachin Tendulkar’s tryst with making history dates back to his school days when he carved records out of habit. 21 years after his debut, he became the first man to score a double hundred in an ODI. The feat came against an attack consisting of Dale Steyn, Charl Langeveldt and Wayne Parnell. The first double century ever in ODI’s – another feat to his name.

The bestest innings of him.

The bestest innings of Sachin.

Glorious Start said it all!

A tiny figure, all of 16, walked onto the field for the first time in a Test match against Pakistan team comprising of blood-thirsty Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis. One ball roared and the kid was in a pool of blood. After a little patch work, he stood up, “I’ll bat.” Navjot Singh Sidhu’s jaw dropped right to the ground. That was none other than Sachin who went on to be the greatest batsman and moreover the most successful cricketer of all time. ODIs were different but so was Tendulkar, not any other batsmen but one for whom God had reserved the chosen stuff. Tendulkar’s aura grew stronger due to his grounded nature. His humility on and off the field despite batting records kissing his feat makes him double the legend he is today. But one thing was still missing – a World Cup trophy. That void was also filled in with the victory of India in 2011 World Cup – The whole team dedicated the emphatic win to Sachin!

As the tennis great Martina Navratilova said, “The mark of great sportsmen is not how good they are at their best, but how good they are their worst.” That’s where Tendulkar has outraced every cricketer. Even when at his lowest ebb and people calling for his head incessantly, Tendulkar never lost his composure and remain dignified both on and off the field. He never questioned an umpire’s call but accepted it with grace. He never abused, never resorted to sledging. Only did what he knew the best, that is play cricket.

This religions owes everything to him!

This religions owes everything to him!

That’s what makes him stand in elite company. That’s what makes him Sachin Tendulkar. Thank you, Sachin, for entertaining us. ODI cricket will find it difficult to fill the void created by your absence.

For rapists, punishment wont do – A serious makeover of society necessary!

delhi_rape_capital_of_india
While there is a continuing outrage going on across the country regarding diminishing societal values and disrespect of women in the country, I also register my say in this respect. The said initiative is for the Delhi Rape Victim who was brutally raped in a moving bus in the capital few days ago. The shocking incident brought to forefront a self – evident face of the society where nowadays young girls and women have to fear from an empty road as well as a crowded place. Such an aspect is derogatory of the basic values which society always boasts of. India has reached to such a pedestal where even new born girls are not spared from being victims of such disastrous crime. Molestation and Eve teasing are also on an ever high rate. Well it’s not far from now when such people won’t even hesitate to rape our Motherland and openly deter from her traditions, culture and values.

In India, we talk about equality of gender and also status, the same has not yet been achieved by our policy makers. The major reason is that the basic unit of a society – i.e. the present day Family has not been able to imbibe such values to their own members. Thus, the future has a long narrow dark tunnel of crimes which ultimately leads an individual behind bars. And such an individual gains the status of a “Criminal” who is bailed out of jail even earlier than he himself expects and lives his life freely looking for a new prey. The rape victim is left with nothing – no soul, no peace of mind, no friends and sometime even their own families don’t back them. The fear of social stigma on all the fronts devastates their lives. She can’t think of a new life because then the society will step in and say “That your contribution had been enough, now don’t you dare come back to us because we have some basic dignity and traditions. On the other hand, you are left with nothing. It’s better if you end your life!”

Any overnight solution is not possible in this regard. You need to change your perception that such a situation cannot affect your lives; but sooner or later you’ll get to know that you are damn wrong and there’s a lot more to worry about on the other hand. Fastest Track Court is of utmost importance. Society should accept the pros and cons of such a peculiar situation and mend ways to not let this happen to any other woman in the country.

Molestation Staged in Guwahati : The city of eastern light in pitch darkness

The molestation of a 17-year old girl in Guwahati on Monday on her way back home from a bar has sparked nation-wide debate over the safety of the fairer sex in the country. As per the reports, she was molested, groped at and beaten up,  by a mob comprising of around 20 men. The shocking part is that all this happened in full public view – even the Media itself was present to cover this incident live. But no one dared to go against those molesters, as if they staged it for the wider public. It’s disgusting that the entire incident was shot on camera by a News Live camera person and is now viral on the Internet with   huge number of views from all over the globe. Upon being questioned on the ethics behind shooting a molestation incident live and airing it, the channel said they did it “in public interest“. Remember Constitution of India (Basically Article 19)? Is this what constitutes Public Interest? What about the Media Ethics?

Molesters in Guwahati

One thing is sure for we Indians that an outrage lasts till the headline lasts but we forget to understand that many lives are tarnished because of such shocking incidents. We do forget that are being girls molested and sexual harassment is there on the streets of this nation everyday. And moreover, all of these are bailable offences. Even after many pleading to the Home Ministry to  pass the Criminal Law amendment to change the law relating to sexual assault, but still it doesn’t seem to be on the priority list of the Government. And we ourselves facilitate such incidents to bring a bad name to the culture and ethics of our great country.  Hail India!

SACHIN : My HERO ready for the second innings

At least with me, the match starts much, much earlier than the actual match.”

                                                                                               ~ Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar

Well the God of Cricket finally steps in and takes oath for Rajya Sabha(Upper house) today. It is to be noted that Little Master was nominated to the Upper House along with evergreen film actress Rekha and industrialist Anu Aga in April, but had to wait to take his oath until the end of IPL season 5. It was a moment of pride for millions of his fans and supporters when Sachin created another feat by becoming the first active sportsperson and cricketer to have been nominated to the Rajya Sabha under the Prominent Citizens Quota(Nomination by the President). Meanwhile his oath-taking as a member of parliament (MP) was a brief affair, which he did in Hindi and in the name of God, but keeping with his star status, the attendant ceremony prolonged a bit longer.

He clearly stated that his priority is just Cricket for now. “…I am here because of my cricketing career. I cannot take any focus away from my cricket. That is where it all started for me. I will focus on my cricket and as and when I stop playing cricket, I don’t know, when I will start attending to other things.” Such a genius and dedicated lover of cricket. Wish you all the best my hero! 🙂 Kudos! God Bless!

This is my humble submission… Lawyer all the way!

There is no denying the fact that Common Law Admission Test (CLAT)  has been drawing a large no. of students since it’s very inception in 2008. The above study by the national daily Dainik Bhaskar is the resultant of the same. The magnitude of interest shown by students in stepping in the Law field  amuses everyone including their Parents themselves. Well their choice is not wrong! Times have changed and it has brought about a change in the mindset of students and now this dynamic field attracts them. It’s like many among us discuss  the deterioration of law and order situation in India, what else can be the best way to contribute their bit in their own small way. And sometimes it turns out to be their first step to initiate their say in the legislation of the state.  The most striking feature to be noted in this paradigm shift towards CLAT is that the above study simply shows the students who try their level best to get into the National Law Schools/Universities (NLU). But there are many others who force their way into major private Law Schools or govt. colleges which are very well regulated by the Bar Council of India (BCI). And the good news is that some Private law schools are far better than the NLUs, thus opening many options for Law aspiring students. The bad news is that this in turn makes the competition very tough! So, a focused and dedicated time-table is required to crack CLAT and various Law School entrance exams. Wish you all the very best!

P.S. –  “NLU” tag is not of utmost importance to bring out the best in you as a lawyer. Many distinguished lawyers in the history of India weren’t NLU graduates. So don’t underestimate yourself and your hard work will surely bear fruits! 🙂

~From a lawyer in the making

The real face of Bandh!

When India faces the music of price rise, the opposition party took an  undemocratic and irresponsible step by calling for a nationwide bandh. This band is staged all over India to raise serious concerns about price rise and related issues. But what about the common public and their aspirations? There was  a sudden urge the NDA, Samajwadi party and Left parties to makes this Bharat Bandh a “success” by paralyzing the normal set up of the country.  Forcing students to stay at home which affected their studies, also many who were going to their offices or workplaces were barred to do so. Well to be very true, this Bandh was uncalled for. There was no basis in raising  such an issue by hampering the day to day activities of a common man.

This Bharat bandh completely proves that HOW EASY IT IS TO FOOL INDIANS. The point is that Bandh should be held mutually with cooperation from all parts of the society. It should not be by force (by damaging public property, disturbing normal life of normal people). Why don’t we try to apply this bandh on big guns like politician, industrialists or bureaucrats individually instead of continuously forcing common man to participate in bandh? Yes! Only then will it give real meaning of bandh. 🙂

A Mallu’s Delight

“By Sherin

Whether it may be any social networking giants like Facebook and Twitter, or the online media sites such as Youtube, everywhere the latest rage is about the song Kolavari di. This peppy number with bizarre lyrics is driving everyone crazy. The promo of the song, which was released by Sony Music on November 16, became an instant hit overnight on social networking sites for its quirky ‘Tanglish‘ (Tamil-English) lyrics.

The promotional video for an upcoming film “3,” which shows Dhanush recording the song in an informal setting, has gone viral. On YouTube alone, pormo version of the song was edging towards 2.5 million views and 40,000 “likes” in less than a week. On Twitter, “Kolaveri” is the No. 1  trending word, with many tweeting random bits of the song.

Actor Dhanush singing for movie 3 at a studio in Chennai.

The promo features the actor-playback singer Dhanush, son-in-law of superstar Rajinikanth, singing the song in a studio, and composer Anirudh at the piano, while wife & the director Aishwarya Rajinikant and co-starShruti Hassan watch along and give suggestions.

 A Mallu’s DELIGHT : The author is STAR-STRUCK

There’s no doubt that this instant hit has come from South India where such kind of music is a passion in its own dignified form. Granted that Kolavari di  is a mish-mash of English and Tamil but it’s fairer to say it’s 80% nonsense. When a South Indian felt that that the quality of Tamil movie songs has hit the rock bottom, a garbage (for many) like this comes and sets a new pedestal.

It’s surprising that the “Kolaveri” is Tamil for “murderous rage,” but I was even more baffled by the verse “cow-u cow-u holi cow-u.” But it’s no surprise that the song of a jilted boy asking the girl why she did that to him (Why this Kolaveri?) has become an anthem. The pure emotions of breakup is the highlight, which every single youth in this country can relate to. In fact, its mad lyrics are part of its success.

In a nut shell, this music is fantastic and a Mallu’s delight in this regard is inevitable. Really tells that Indians – being original, honest, and humble – can create sensation. No need to copy best practices. Just be rooted down to earth and enjoy in your pursuit and victories like this will happen. It’s quite evident that this song should be a soothing music even to the ears of international audience. This music comes directly from heart without any second thought and deliberation on the consequences. Anything straight from heart lives to rule and amuses the masses. I am loving it! Here’s wishing Dhanush, Aishwarya & most of all Anirudh all the more fame & success……Superu. Superu. 🙂

Here’s the lyrics for those who haven’t glued to this song till yet :
